Cathay to add Stockholm, Toronto to cargo network

Cathay to add Stockholm, Toronto to cargo network

Cathay Pacific Airways will add Stockholm and Toronto to its freighter network in September, bringing to 30 the number of online freighter destinations served by the Hong Kong-based airline.

Calls in Stockholm will be added from Sept. 17 to the airline’s existing Hong Kong/Munich twice-weekly operation. Toronto will be included as an extension of Cathay’s three-times-weekly Hong Kong/New York freighter service, effective Sept. 20.

Cathay last month started a service to Chennai, India, and plans to increase the frequency of services to Dallas and Atlanta in the near future.

“The addition of Stockholm and Toronto continues our sustained network expansion which started with Munich in 2004, then Shanghai, Dallas and Atlanta in 2005, and last month Chennai,” said Ron Mathison, Cathay’s director and general manager cargo. “Our continued growth is critical to the future success of Hong Kong, whose air cargo hub status is increasingly being threatened by lower-cost competition from neighboring airports.”
