CBP destroys bees in Mississippi ports

CBP destroys bees in Mississippi ports Agriculture specialists at U.S. Customs and Border Protection in recent weeks detected and destroyed two swarms of Africanized honey bees found onboard cargo vessels in Mississippi, the agency reported Monday.
One incident involved a vessel that arrived in Gulfport from Honduras in late April, and a second group of “killer bees” was discovered in mid-May in Pascagoula on a vessel that came from Jacksonville, Fla.
Africanized honey bees, which have not yet been established in Mississippi, are more aggressive, tend to swarm more often and pose a threat to the beekeeping industry.
