CBP issues interim import entry rules for Canadian softwood lumber

CBP issues interim import entry rules for Canadian softwood lumber    U.S. Customs and Border Protection has issued an interim rule requiring additional import entry details for shipments of Canadian softwood lumber.
   The purpose of the change is to help CBP monitor industry compliance with the new softwood lumber agreement reached between the U.S. and Canadian governments on Sept. 12. In the agreement, the United States dropped antidumping and countervailing duties against Canadian softwood lumber imports, while Canada agreed to either impose an export charge or an export charge coupled with volume restraint on softwood lumber shipments destined to the United States.
   The additional import entry information required by CBP includes:
   * Region of origin of the Canadian softwood lumber.
   * Export permit number issued by the Canadian government for the shipment.
   * The original paper origin certificate issued by Canada’s Maritime Lumber Bureau.
