CBP IT chief heads to Sandler & Travis

CBP IT chief heads to Sandler & Travis Rod MacDonald, who retired this month as assistant commissioner for information and technology at U.S. Customs and Border Protection, has signed on with Sandler & Travis Trade Advisory Services (STTAS), the customs and international trade consulting arm of prominent Miami-based trade law firm Sandler, Travis & Rosenberg. MacDonald served 25 years at U.S. Customs.
Sandler & Travis said MacDonald will work on trade, border and cargo security projects.
As chief information officer for the agency, MacDonald managed a $1 billion budget and a staff of 4,400. Among the major initiatives he was responsible for was the Automated Commercial Environment, the $3.5 billion advanced information system being developed by CBP to collect, process and analyze commercial import and export data. STTAS is a subcontractor on the team that is working on the computer modernization project.
Meanwhile, CBP has named MacDonald’s former deputy, Kenneth Ritchhart, as acting assistant commissioner for the Office of Information and Technology, spokeswoman Erlinda Byrd said.
Ritchhart previously held top technology management positions at the FBI.
