CBP Miami notes gift policy

Harold Woodward, Customs and Border Protection's director, field operations for the Miami Field Office, has put the word out to private sector interests dealing with the CBP that agency policy prohibits its employees from receiving gifts.

'Each holiday season, it is common for those within the private sector to offer gifts, invitations and other expressions of friendship and gratitude to those with whom they conduct business,' Woodward said in an information bulletin. 'While recognizing the sentiment that inspires such offers, we wish to reaffirm U.S. Customs and Border Protection policy and preclude embarrassment for our employees and those with whom we do business. Employees of CBP in Miami, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach and Key West are mindful of their obligation to maintain a professional image in carrying out their responsibilities' and are required to refuse gifts in order to avoid any potential for conflict of interest concerns.

'Please accept our wishes for a happy, healthy, and safe holiday season,' he added.
