CBP nabs $22 million in fake luggage, bags at Oakland port U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers Monday announced the seizure of $22 million of counterfeit merchandise at the Port of Oakland.
   CBP discovered the shipment May 9 from a container vessel that originated in China. The shipment was manifested as luggage, but CBP officers instead discovered the shipment to be counterfeit brand name merchandise with a legitimate street value of $22 million. The goods seized included fake versions of name brand producers such as Bulgari, Cartier, Chanel, Gucci, Jimmy Choo, Juicy Couture, Prada, and Versace.
   The fake brand-name luggage and bags were hidden within suitcases that did not bear the designer labels. The seized merchandise will be destroyed.
   CBP officers made a similar discovery of fake bags at Oakland last year. In late February 2007, CBP officers discovered more than 100,000 fake Gucci and Fendi handbags in a shipment unloaded at the port. The goods, with a street value of more than $13 million, were manifested as blankets and originated in China.
