CBP offers Caribbean trade facilitation insights

CBP offers Caribbean trade facilitation insights    U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative last week hosted a World Trade Organization workshop with customs and ministerial officials from 12 Caribbean countries to enhance trade facilitation in the region.
   Countries participating were Antigua & Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Jamaica, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, Suriname, and Trinidad & Tobago, in addition to a representative of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS).
   CBP and USTR provided guidance and lessons learned by the United States when implementing the current draft negotiating text through programs such as the Importer Security Filing (10+2), Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT), and Importer Self-Assessment (ISA), among others. Participants also visited CBP's San Juan office.
   The workshop is part of the technical assistance and support for capacity building of the WTO Negotiations on Trade Facilitation.
