CBP plays role in Katrina recovery

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers have been instructed to expedite the processing and clearance of foreign cargo shipments, such as medical suppliers, food and agriculture shipments, and building materials, that are needed for hurricane relief efforts along the Gulf coast, the agency said.

Meanwhile, about 600 CBP personnel are assisting with relief and law enforcement efforts in the damage zone.
