CBP schedules ISF outreach events

U.S. Customs and Border Protection said Tuesday it would conduct outreach seminars in four cities next month to help importers, brokers and transportation intermediaries learn how to comply with new advanced cargo data requirements.

The Importer Security Filing seminars will take place Aug. 19 in Philadelphia and Seattle/Tacoma, and Aug. 26 in Boston and Houston. The agency plans to hold educational sessions in nine more cities during September, but has yet to settle on specific dates.

Participants can register online next month through the ISF portal on the Customs Web site.

The ISF rule requiring importers to provide more detail about the origin, destination and intermediate packing location of shipments went into effect last January. Importers are being encouraged to use this year to get their compliance processes in order to avoid penalties when enforcement kicks in early next year.
