CBP starts upgrade of Web site

CBP starts upgrade of Web site U.S. Customs and Border Protection said it will make a number of “user friendly” upgrades to its Web site over the next several months.
“We want to make sure that those who come to our site looking for a particular piece of information or to perform a particular task will be able to do so with a minimum of confusion,” said Jeffrey Robertson, CBP’s assistant commissioner for public affairs, in a statement.
CBP noted the Web site already generates considerable traffic from the business and travel communities. Last year, it received more than 15 million visits. The Web site contains more than 11,000 pages of information.
The first phase of improvements to CBP’s home page (www.cbp.gov) include the use of more and larger photos, a rotating news ticker and streamlined layout. According to CBP, users will first notice:
' Clearer presentation of important events or changes in regulations that effect border security.
' News ticker on the homepage that links to the latest news on the agency’s activities, both news releases and news coverage.
' Direct links or shortcuts to emergency and travel alerts, interactive tool for answers to specific questions, and quick links to CBP programs and tools.
' “Smart link” on top of many search results to “drive users to the most appropriate pages.”
' Direct links to CBP’s border enforcement operations — Port Security, Border Patrol and Air and Marine office.
' Links to the latest hiring and career information.
' CBP has established a user survey for site visitors to “voice their opinions” as changes are made: www.guidestarco.com/cbpgovsurvey.htm.
