CBP to hold C-TPAT conference for truckers

U.S. Customs and Border Protection said it will host its first Northern Border Highway Carrier Conference for certified carriers in the Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism program on Aug. 18-19 in Buffalo, N.Y.

Registration for the conference opens at noon on June 1.

The conference is an opportunity to brief motor carriers about the trusted shipper program, including best practices for improving security such as use of seals for trailer doors, minimum security criteria, Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) electronic manifest, the Free and Secure Trade (FAST) expedited clearance process, use of the C-TPAT Web portal, coordination between C-TPAT and Canada's Partners in Protection program, and undergoing CBP security reviews.

The conference will differ from CBP's annual C-TPAT conference because it is geared specifically towards motor carriers that cross the U.S.-Canadian border.

There is no registration fee for the conference, but attendance is limited to 500 people.

For information about the conference and the link to the online registration will be posted on the C-TPAT page of CBP's Web site.
