Census issues advance notice for mandatory AES filing

The U.S. Bureau of the Census said it is seeking public input on its proposal to eliminate paper-based export declarations and require that shippers electronically file all export information through the Automated Export System.

The advance comment period runs through Nov. 21, according to the Federal Register notice. Census also is considering modifying the eligibility requirements for companies that file under the Option 4 post-departure program.

Under a mandate from Congress, the Census Bureau is expected to issue next year a final rule to collect all export data by electronic means.
