CenterPoint adds warehouse near Port of Virginia

Industrial developer CenterPoint has purchased a transload facility in Chesapeake, Va.

CenterPoint Properties has acquired a 130,860-square foot container transload facility in Chesapeake, Va., near the Port of Virginia.
The industrial property developer said the facility is fully leased. It did not disclose the tenant or the previous property owner.
The freight facility includes 183 dock doors, two drive-in doors, and 750 trailer positions.
Imports are drayed to the facility where they are cross-docked into domestic 53-foot containers for distribution to regional distribution centers and stores.
CenterPoint owns five properties in Suffolk and Chesapeake totaling more than 1.5 million square feet.
CenterPoint several years ago was one of a handful of bidders to run the Port of Virginia when the state considered privatizing its assets. The company wanted to take advantage of the port to build up its warehouse presence in the area and better synchronize deliveries.
