CEOs of Port of Tacoma, ITEP to receive Connie Awards

John Wolfe of the NWSA and Port of Tacoma and Amy Grat of International Trade Education Programs will be honored at the Containerization & Intermodal Institute’s annual Connie Awards dinner, scheduled for Sept. 19 in Long Beach, Calif.

   John Wolfe, the CEO of the Northwest Seaport Alliance and Port of Tacoma, and Amy Grat, CEO of International Trade Education Programs Inc. have been selected to receive the 2017 Connie Awards, which are being presented by the Containerization & Intermodal Institute (CII) in Long Beach, Calif. late this summer.
   The Connie Awards are presented annually by the Containerization & Intermodal Institute. This year, the award dinner is being held in conjunction with the Intermodal EXPO, organized by the Intermodal Association of North America (IANA) and set for Sept. 17-19 in Long Beach.
   The industry-wide dinner event honoring Wolfe and Grat will be held Sept. 19 at the Long Beach Renaissance Hotel.
   The Connie Award recognizes recipients that have made outstanding contributions to containerization and the world trade and transportation sectors, and have a pioneering spirit, as well as for the positive example they establish for those who will be the future the industry.
   The Containerization & Intermodal Institute, founded in 1960, has been presenting the Connie Award since 1972. Among some 60 recipients to date are Robert Curry, Sr., John McLaurin, Richard Steinke, Matthew Cox, Rick Gabrielson, James McKenna, Paul F. Richardson, Captain S. Y. Kuo, Ronald Widdows, Jon Hemingway, Helen Bentley, Thomas B. Crowley Sr., Malcom McLean and Evergreen Group Chairman Dr. Y. F. Chang.
   Also at the event, CII will present scholarships to students studying logistics. Any company can sponsor a named scholarship through CII. Nearly $700,000 in higher education funding has been given since 1992, according to the organization.
