Charleston hails NSCSA service

Charleston hails NSCSA service The South Carolina State Ports Authority hailed the National Shipping Co. of Saudi Arabia's announcement last week that it was adding Charleston as a port of call on its North America liner service.
NSCSA's decision was a positive piece of news after the announcement late last year from Maersk Line was withdrawing its services from Charleston over the next two years.
John F. Hassell III, interim president and chief executive officer of the port authority, praised the collaborative effort of both the public and private sector in winning the business. He said involved in bringing the carrier to Charleston were Carolina Shipping, Dockside Logistics, Charleston Heavy Lift, SSA Cooper, South Carolina Public Railways, as well as railroads and trucking firms at the port.
The port said the service will call the port every 21 days.
“There are some large breakbulk cargo shippers in the Port of Charleston's marketplace that make it the logical port of call,' said Ray Jozwiak, NSCSA market analyst. 'On the inbound side, Charleston is a strong gateway for India goods, particularly textile imports. So this will initially be driven by breakbulk outbound and containers inbound and we will work quickly to add more freight.'
