Chavez stages mock invasion at La Guaira? The Venezuelan seaport of La Guaira was the site of a mock military assault Monday, when soldiers and armored vehicles moving in from a naval transport ship enacted an effort to take control of the port, a report in the Miami Herald said.
   The invasion was countered by a defensive effort under the command of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, who ordered the mock invasion and defense of the key port as part of ongoing preparations for a possible U.S. invasion. La Guaira is a key cargo port and is the ocean gateway to the capital.
   The report said the defensive troops at the port were dressed as civilians in an effort to fool the invaders, but other Venezuelan troops 'were standing by within striking range and waiting for orders to stage a surprise counterattack.'
   Chavez has said repeatedly he is concerned about a possible U.S. invasion, although the U.S. insists it has no plans to attack Venezuela.
