Cherin nominated for Long Beach port role

Cherin nominated for Long Beach port role    Port of Long Beach Executive Director Richard Steinke has recommended Alex H. Cherin, executive officer of the Long Beach harbor board, to be the port's managing director of trade relations and port operations.
   The port's trade relations and port operations bureau includes the communications, trade relations, security and maintenance divisions.
   Cherin has been executive officer to the Harbor Commission since 2007, during which the time the port has tackled major projects, including redevelopment of two older container terminals, and the port's Clean Truck Program. Cherin has also coordinated and participated in high-level meetings with port customers throughout the world, the port said.
   The board is scheduled to consider the appointment at its meeting Monday.
