Chileans now sympathetic toward Bolivian port    Chileans oppose a proposal for a land swap that would give landlocked Bolivia land for use as a Pacific port, but they would back a compromise that would give Bolivia access to the ocean as long as the land remained under Chilean control.
   Bolivian sea access has long been a controversial issue between the countries. Most freight headed to Bolivia moves through the Port of Arica in northern Chile, but Bolivia would like to complete a land swap that would lead to an actual Bolivian port.
   A survey conducted by a newspaper in Santiago, Chile said 75 percent of the respondents to a telephone survey supported the concept of Bolivia sea access as long as it would not have sovereignty over current Chilean land, according to an Associated Press report.
