China COSCO reroutes boxes from Piraeus to Koper

State-owned China COSCO Shipping has rerouted boxes from the Port of Piraeus in Greece to Slovenia’s Port of Koper along the Adriatic Sea due to rail worker strikes.    State-owned China COSCO Shipping is using feeder vessels to reroute boxes from Greece’s Port of Piraeus to the Port of Koper in Slovenia as a result of rail worker strikes, according to maritime news outlet Splash 24/7.
   The Greek parliament ratified an agreement two weeks ago that gave China COSCO Shipping a 67 percent stake in the Piraeus Port Authority.
   Moves to privatize the port have already lead to strikes by dockworkers, who Reuters previously reported, fear the deal would put their jobs at risk.
   Greece agreed to the privatization of the government-owned Port of Piraeus, along with the northern Port of Thessaloniki (slated for privatization) as part of a bailout deal with the European Union.
   Located a few miles south of the Greek capital of Athens, Piraeus is used as a transshipment hub for inland rail services and intra-European short sea loops to Northern Europe and the Black Sea.
