Chinese newspaper Xinhua reported that on Tuesday, Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao said China has only been importing from legal timber-producing nations and that the legal trade of timber had no direct link with destruction of forests.
The Greenpeace report alleged China has been importing thousands of cubic meters of illegal timber from the two countries in Southeast Asia.
