China ports? TEUs up 22% in August

China portsÆ TEUs up 22% in August China' major ports experienced a 21.7 percent year-on-year rise in container throughput to 9.8 million TEUs, according to a news report by Forbes.com.
   Shanghai Port rose 17.9 percent in August to 2.3 million TEUs while the Shenzhen Port — comprising Yantian, Shekou, Mawan and Chiwan — rose 10.9 percent to 1.9 million TEUs.
   Those figures compare to preliminary monthly estimates of 2.06 million TEUs at Hong Kong and 2.45 million TEUs at Singapore, which maintains its position as the world's busiest container facility.
   After eight months, box throughput at the Chinese ports was up 23.1 percent at 71.97 million TEUs with total cargo turnover up 15.7 percent to 3.45 billion tons, based on information provided by China's Ministry of Communications.
