China self-initiates AD/CV duty investigations into imports of U.S. sorghum

China is the top buyer of U.S. sorghum, with the U.S. shipping 4.76 million tons of a total of about 5 million tons imported by China in 2017, Reuters reported.    The Chinese government is self-initiating antidumping and countervailing duty investigations into U.S. exports of sorghum, multiple media outlets reported earlier this week, citing an announcement by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce.
   Reuters reported Sunday that starting the investigations is expected to “immediately hit demand” for the “upcoming U.S. sorghum crop,” which is largely used to feed livestock in China.
   China is the number one buyer of U.S. sorghum, with the U.S. shipping 4.76 million tons of a total of about 5 million tons imported by China in 2017, Reuters reported. U.S. exports of the grain to China last year totaled approximately $1.1 billion.
