CHINA SHIPPING GROUP WANTS PLACE AMONG TOP 10 CARRIERS
China Shipping Group, the new expansionist Chinese
shipping line, said that it intends to be one of the top 10 liner operators within five
years.
The Shanghai-based carrier said that it plans to enter the transpacific
and transatlantic trades. It also intends to commence an Asia-Mediterranean container
service early next year.
The China Shipping Group, virtually unknown outside Asia until
recently, has 47,000 employees worldwide. The company said that it is involved in general
cargo shipping, container shipping, tankers, passenger shipping, crew training, freight
forwarding and other activities.
China Shipping Group is headed by president Li Kelin, a former senior executive of China
Ocean Shipping Co.
