China Shipping Seattle Terminal opens Aug. 8    China Shipping said the first call by one of its vessels, the CSCL Jakarta, at its new terminal in Seattle will occur Aug. 8.
   The 70-acre terminal, operated in partnership with Stevedoring Services of America (SSA) and Matson, has 50 foot-draft container terminal and two berths of 1,500 feet and 1,200 feet. It can handle 400,000 containers yearly, and has room for 300 reefer containers.
   The facility has three super-post-Panamax and three PACECO cranes, with eight lanes for the in-gate at Terminal 30 and five lanes at the out-gate at adjacent Terminal 25. Access to the Burlington Northern Santa Fe and Union Pacific railroads is one mile away, and freeway access just two miles.
   China Shipping said its wheeled operation at Terminal 30 would provide lower cost, shorter turn time and better service for local and IPI importers. The adjacent updated BNSF facility will offer quick pickup at the pier on the railroad's own chassis for delivery to the near-dock ramp.
   Port rotation in the Asia Pacific Northwest (ANW1) service is Nansha, Hong Kong, Yantian, Shanghai, Ningbo, Pusan, Seattle and Vancouver.
