China Shipping to call at SeattleÆs Terminal 30 by 2009

The Port of Seattle said Monday that China Shipping Service would begin calling at the soon-to-be-redeveloped Terminal 30 in the spring of 2009.

Under terms of the new agreement, China Shipping will become an equity partner with SSA Terminals at the Terminal 30 facility.

The port is investing nearly $120 million to transform the Terminal 30 site from a cruise terminal into a modern container terminal.

Following China Shipping's move to Terminal 30, the carrier's current location at the port's Terminal 18 will be refurbished and made available.

'It is especially gratifying for a current customer to increase its investment and presence here, said Port Commission President John Creighton. 'We are honored by the confidence they have shown in the Port of Seattle.'

China Shipping has called at the Seattle port since 1999. Last year the carrier moved nearly 100,000 TEUs through the Port of Seattle.
