China trade to cool off

China’s Ministry of Commerce predicted last week that the country’s trade growth would slow in 2005, according to the New York Times. Exports and imports are projected to rise 15 percent next year, half this year’s rate.

The ministry based its prediction on rising oil prices that would reduce disposable income in the United States, Europe and other regions available for consumers to spend on products manufactured in China.
