Chinese forwarder starts trucking business

   Freight forwarder China Logistics Group has linked up with a Chinese trucking company, leasing a small fleet of trucks to begin a domestic operation based in Shanghai.
   The company’s goal is to serve forwarding customers.
   While starting in strategic points around the region, the company will expand to ports along the Chinese eastern seaboard, according to a press release. Further details about the cities involved, or a specific timeline for the rollout, were not provided.
   Danny Chen, China Logistics Group’s chairman and chief executive officer, is looking forward to growing his business through this new avenue.
   “We believe that trucking services are a critical component to the growth of our business as we offer our clients a turnkey shipping solution from their factory to the port of loading, giving them the certainty of knowing that we are not relying on a third party to ensure delivery,” he said in a statement. “Additionally, by combining this service with ocean freight forwarding, we believe we can reduce expenses and expand margins to significantly enhance our future bottom-line results.” – Jon Ross
