Ching named senior VP for Alexander & Baldwin

Honolulu-based Alexander & Baldwin said today it has promoted Meredith J. Ching to senior vice president, effective June 28.

   Ching was vice president, government and community relations since 1992. She will continue to report to Allen Doane, A&B chairman and chief executive officer, and will retain responsibility for her previous functions.

   A&B, the largest private landowner in Hawaii, is the parent firm of Oakland-based ocean carrier Matson Navigation. Formerly one of the 'Big Five' companies that dominated the island state's early economy, today the 78-year-old firm operates businesses in shipping, real estate, and diversified agriculture.

   Ching joined A&B in 1982 and was promoted to vice president, corporate natural resources in 1988. She has retained responsibilities related to the company’s natural resource assets since then. Three years later, she added government affairs to her responsibilities and, in 1992 Ching was also given the corporation’s community relations functions. Prior to joining A&B, she was a financial analyst for Dillingham Corp.
