CKYH adds new Shanghai-Savannah direct service    The Georgia Ports Authority and the CKYH Alliance announced Thursday the addition of the 'Shanghai/Savannah Express,' a new service between Asia and Savannah.
   In a statement, GPA Executive Director Doug Marchand said the new service will 'provide our customers and beneficial cargo owners throughout the nation additional opportunities to ensure reduced transit times to and from Asia.'
   Savannah is underway with a 10-year, $750 million improvement plan to boost container capacity, Marchand said, including completion of the first phase of the port's newest container berth, CB8, and ongoing increases to container storage areas.
   The first call for the Shanghai/Savannah Express, also known as CKYH's AWE-5 service, is scheduled for Aug. 2 at GPA's Garden City Terminal and will offer 21-day service between Shanghai and Savannah.
