CKYH Alliance adds Prince Rupert to PNW service The CKYH ocean carrier alliance, comprising COSCO Container Lines, 'K' Line, Yang Ming and Hanjin Shipping, said Wednesday it is adding Prince Rupert, British Columbia, Canada to the South loop section of their Pacific North West (PNW) butterfly service.
   The service, jointly operated by Hanjin and COSCO Container Lines, will add Prince Rupert to the PNW service as soon as the port starts its operations at the end of October.
   The Prince Rupert operation, set to officially open next month after two years of development, is the closest ice-free North American port to Asia. Located about 570 miles northwest of Seattle, the port offers the shortest route between the Far East and North America, reducing sailing to the North American West Coast by up to nearly 60 hours. The port also possesses the deepest harbor in North America and its on-dock rail facilities feed into the Canadian National Rail double-stack network.
   Wednesday's announcement cements the CKYH Alliance as the first ocean carrier alliance with a scheduled service to the Port of Prince Rupert.
