CKYH now slow steams 4 all-water services

CKYH Alliance carriers COSCO, 'K' Line, Yang Ming and Hanjin are “extra-slow” steaming on four of their five Far East/U.S. East Coast loops, according to a note in Alphaliner.

The latest such switch is the Yang Ming-operated AWE-3 service, which American Shipper affiliate ComPair Data confirmed is on a 63-day round-trip instead of a 56-day loop. The service is being routed on the return leg from the U.S. East Coast via the Cape of Good Hope, instead of back through the Panama Canal, in essence making it a round-the-world service.

Also in February, the AWE-4 and AWE-5 loops are being extra slow-steamed, where vessel speeds are reduced from 24 knots to as low as 12 knots.

In January, CKYH member Hanjin Shipping said it was slowing its AWE-1 all-water transpacific service. The alliance then announced it was slowing four Asia/Europe loops, where slow-steaming has been more prevalent.
