Clarification: Port Everglades gets federal approval for 50-ft. harbor

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has only endorsed deepening the harbor entrance and turning basin to 48 feet, but effective depth will be 50 feet.

Monday’s AS Daily carried a headline that Port Everglades received approval from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to move ahead with a project to deepen its harbor to 50 feet.
Although port officials anticipate the effective depth will be 50 feet because of the margin of error in construction specifications, the Corps of Engineers has only endorsed deepening the harbor entrance and turning basin to 48 feet.
Federal funding for the project is contingent on future authorization from Congress.
