CMA CGM adds rate hikes, peak season charge

   CMA CGM said Wednesday it will seek increased rates on a host of trades, while reiterating the implementation of a peak season surcharge on the eastbound transpacific trade.

   The proposed increases are:

   ' From Mediterranean and Black Sea ports to the U.S. East Coast, $150 per 20-foot container and $250 per 40-foot container, effective July 11.

   ' From Asia to the East and West coasts of South America, the West Coast of Central America, and Mexico, $600 per TEU, effective Aug. 1.

   ' From Asia to the Caribbean, $560 per 20-foot container and $800 per 40-foot container, effective Aug. 1.

   ' From Asia to West Africa, $200 per TEU, effective Aug. 1.

   The peak season surcharge from Asia to the West and East coasts of the United States and the West Coast of Canada is $320 per 20-foot container and $400 per 40-foot container, and $450 per high-cube 40-foot container, effective July 15. In April, the line announced the transpacific peak season surcharge.

   The French line will also assess a $100-per-TEU peak season fee on shipments from Asia to South Africa from July 15 through Aug. 31.
