CMA CGM inland waterway unit receives barges

CMA CGM inland waterway unit receives barges River Shuttle Containers (RSC), a French inland waterway container shipping subsidiary of CMA CGM, earlier this week took delivery of three new barges for operation on the company's Rh'ne Sa'ne line.
   The three 135-meter barges, Nirvana, Guadania and Camael, can each carry 204 TEUs, and will enable RSC to offer three weekly departures instead of two on the Fos/Lyon/M'con/Chalon line, boosting the weekly capacity to 1,200 TEUs.
   'These new eco-friendly vessels are self-propelled and consume 41 percent less energy than the pushed barge convoys they are replacing. The barges are also 10 percent faster providing better overall service to customers,' said Philippe Woehrel, general manager of RSC.
   In 2007, RSC transported 75,000 TEUs and generated annual turnover of 18 million euros.
