CMA CGM invests in 400 eco-containers

CMA CGM has signed an agreement with Blue Sky Intermodal to buy 200 40-foot eco-containers, and to rent another 200 20-foot eco-containers, for an undisclosed price.

The containers use bamboo floors instead of the traditional apitong, a rare wood that grows in tropical forests of South-East Asia. Bamboo only takes four to five years to mature, and being a grass, contrary to trees, means that once cut it doesn’t need to be replanted in order for it to grow.

“This action … enables CMA CGM to commit itself to preserving the environment while innovating within its core business,” CMA CGM said.
