   CMA CGM has entered into a slot charter agreement with New World Alliance carriers APL, Hyundai Merchant Marine and MOL, on a recently started service connecting ports in Japan with Los Angeles on the U.S. West Coast.
   The Japan-America Shuttle (JAS) was started in mid-May when the alliance member's divided their PS3 loop into two shuttle services to split coverage between China and Japan. The JAS port rotation is Osaka, Kobe, Nagoya, Shimizu, Tokyo, Los Angeles, and back to Osaka. The transit time from Tokyo to Los Angeles is nine days.
   The service deploys four vessels with three — two of 2,500 TEUs and one of 3,000 TEUs — coming from MOL, while Taiwan's Evergreen Line contributes a single 3,000-TEU boxship.
   French carrier CMA CGM markets the service as FUJI.
   'This new development offers CMA CGM customers optimum coverage of the Japanese market, with five calls eastbound. It comes after the opening of our new agency — CMA CGM (JAPAN) K.K. — and symbolizes the group's commitment to developing its activities in the archipelago,' said Jean-Philippe Thenoz, vice-president North America lines at CMA CGM.
