CMA CGM offers new maritime training program

French shipping company CMA CGM has joined forces with the nation’s Affaires Maritimes and the Armateurs de France association to create a new maritime training program starting in September.

Graduates of the two-year study program with the National Merchant Navy School in Marseilles will receive a state-recognized diploma leading to a deck officer certificate of competency after 12 months of navigation experience.

A third year, still to be added to the program, will prepare students for the unlimited tonnage master's license as part of an overall curriculum that is shorter than existing programs in France and more closely resembles programs in most countries offering maritime training.

CMA CGM will bring 20 graduates into the group for their last year of training. The initiative comes in addition to the group's existing participation in multipurpose officer training programs.

“As CMA CGM strengthens its partnership with the National Merchant Navy School, it continues to reaffirm its commitment to employing French officers,” the company said.
