CMA CGM presses for rate hikes again

   Liner carrier CMA CGM has released a new set of rate increases and peak season surcharges it intends to collect on a number of trades through September.

   The increases are:

   ' $150 per TEU from the Far East, India and the Middle East to West Africa, effective Sept. 15.

   ' $200 per TEU from India and the Middle East to East Africa (up from $150 in an Aug. 10 rate increase announcement), effective Sept. 15.

   ' 125 euros (or '100) per TEU from northern Europe to the Mediterranean, effective Oct. 1.

   ' $200 per 20-foot container and $300 per 40-foot container from Mediterranean and Black Sea ports to the U.S. East Coast, effective Oct. 1.

   ' 150 euros from northern Europe to Indian Ocean island ports, effective Oct. 1.

   ' $150 from Mediterranean, Middle East and Indian ports to Indian Ocean island ports, effective Oct. 1.

   The line also plans to collect peak season surcharges of $75 per TEU from Asia to the Mediterranean and $200 per TEU from Asia to South Africa, effective Sept. 15. The line previously tried to institute a $100 peak season fee from Asia to Med ports on Aug. 22.

   CMA CGM said it has also starting assessing a congestion surcharge of $85 per TEU for import and export containers moving through the Indian port of Chennai.
