CMA CGM, PSA initiate phase 2 of Singapore terminal

Two more berths will be added to the Pasir Panjang Terminal 5, increasing annual handling capacity from two million TEUs to four million TEUs.    French ocean carrier CMA CGM and Singapore’s PSA have launched the second phase of their joint venture container terminal in Singapore, the companies said Monday.
   The joint venture company, CMA CGM-PSA Lion Terminal Pte. Ltd. (CPLT), began operations in July 2016 with two container berths at PSA Singapore’s Pasir Panjang Terminal 5 with an initial annual capacity of 2 million TEUs.
   Phase 2 will add two more berths, giving the terminal an annual handling capacity of 4 million TEUs.
   Since the beginning of 2017, CPLT has achieved high service levels, with an average Gross Berth Productivity of more than 160 moves per hour for the mega vessels, the companies said.
   The expansion of Singapore, being the largest regional transhipment hub, is advantageous for the CMA CGM Group and its co-member shippers within the OCEAN Alliance, which officially commences operations at the beginning of April.
