CMA CGM scoops up secondhand boxship

The French ocean carrier has purchased the 6,589-TEU Maule for $20.3 million, according to a report from maritime news outlet Splash 24/7.    CMA CGM has acquired its most recent secondhand boxship, the 6,589-TEU vessel Maule, for $20.3 million, according to Splash 24/7.
   Since the French liner had previously “vowed to hold off ordering new ships,” CMA CGM has been scooping up secondhand vessels instead, reported Splash 24/7.
   The 2010-built vessel, constructed by CSBC in Taiwan, was last operated by NYK Line in THE Alliance’s MD3 service between Asia and the Mediterranean, according to ocean carrier schedule and capacity database BlueWater Reporting.
   Just last week, CMA CGM announced its plan to acquire Maersk Line’s Brazilian cabotage company Mercosul Line in an effort to boost its South American network coverage.
