CMA CGM seeks higher Asia/Europe rates

CMA CGM seeks higher Asia/Europe rates

Liner carrier CMA CGM on Tuesday said it plans to hike rates on the Asia/Europe trade Aug. 1.

The line said it will raise Asia/Mediterranean rates by $250 per TEU and assess a $25-per-TEU peak season surcharge on the same date. CMA CGM said the surcharge 'will be implemented trade by trade (with the Mediterranean) and will have an independent variation on each trade depending on the market demand and situation.'

Meanwhile, CMA CGM will seek a peak season surcharge of $250 per TEU on Asia/northern Europe trade, also as of Aug. 1.

Finally, the line said it will assess overweight surcharges on Asia/Mediterranean shipments due to 'the huge demand in heavy cargo moving from Asia to Med and the high level of 20-foot equipment demand.'

The overweight surcharge will be $200 per 20-foot container over 20 tons gross weight, and $275 per 20-foot container over 26 tons gross weight for trade from Asia to Black Sea, eastern Med and northern Africa ports. From Asia to the western Med and Adriatic ports, the surcharge is $50 per 20-foot container over 20 tons gross weight.
