The CMA Djakarta, a 2,102-TEU containership operated by
CMA-CGM, has caught fire off the Egyptian coast following an explosion.
The vessel, chartered from German owners, is afloat off the Egyptian
coast near Mersa Mathor. The owner has ordered Smit-Tak to intervene for the salvage of
the vessel and the cargo.
The ship was operated in the NCJ-TPX U.S. West Coast/Asia/Europe
service of CMA-CGM and was en route between Damietta, Egypt, and Malta at the time of the
accident.
