CMA CGM takes delivery of 2 Asia/Europe ships

   French liner carrier CMA CGM said Friday it has taken delivery of two new vessels that will be deployed on the Asia/Europe trade.

   The 6,500-TEU CMA CGM Lamartine and 11,400-TEU CMA CGM Callisto were built by Hanjin Heavy Industries and Construction Co. shipyards in South Korea.

   The CMA CGM Lamartine will be deployed on the line's Asia/Mediterranean MEX service, which has a rotation of Yokohama, Kobe, Busan, Gwanyang, Shanghai, Ningbo, Xiamen, Chiwan, Hong Kong, Port Kelang, Beirut, Malta, Valencia, Barcelona, Marseilles Fos, Genoa, Naples, Malta, Damietta, Khorfakkan, Port Klang, Chiwan and Yokohama.

   The CMA CGM Callisto will be deployed on the FAL 5 service operated between Asia and northern Europe, which has a rotation of Ningbo, Shanghai, Yantian, Tanjung Pelepas, Port Klang, Le Havre, Hamburg, Rotterdam, Zeebrugge, Port Klang, Singapore and Ningbo.

   The Callisto is the third in a series of a dozen 11,400-TEU vessels to be delivered through 2011.

   Rickmers, meanwhile, said Friday it has taken delivery of four 13,100-TEU vessels that will be chartered on a long-term basis to Maersk Line and put into the same service, dubbed AE8 by Maersk.

   The four ships, each with 13,100 TEUs of capacity, were built by Hyundai Heavy Industries in Ulsan, South Korea.
