CMA CGM, the world's third-largest container shipping line, has confirmed that the 1,400-TEU Cape Fulmar will call at the terminal on its FAS Baltic Poland Service also calling Hamburg and Klaipeda. The vessel was the first to call at DCT Gdansk when it opened for business in June.
Team Lines will later this month commence a weekly call with the 508-TEU vessel Maris, providing a regular link to the German ports of Hamburg and Bremerhaven.
The first phase development of the new terminal has been completed so that it now operates with three ship-to-shore cranes and five rubber-tired gantry cranes with attendant yard space and back-up machinery to give the facility an annual throughput capacity of 500,000 TEUs.
'Shippers, forwarders and the entire container transport industry can now look forward to the expedient routing of their cargo via a brand new terminal that features the latest in modern equipment and handling technologies. Our concept of a fast and efficient Polish port to serve both the short and deep sea markets has become a reality,' said Fred Kamperman, general manager of DCT Gdansk.
DCT Gdansk SA is a Polish registered company, majority owned by Global Infrastructure Fund, part of Australia’s Macquarie Bank Group. The U.K. company established to initiate the design and construction of the terminal retains a minority shareholding.
