CMA CGM testing Halifax option

CMA CGM testing Halifax option French carrier CMA CGM will make a one-off voyage to the Port of Halifax with a view to making the Canadian port a permanent fixture on its global network.
   The 1,835-TEU vessel “CMA CGM Cortes,” deployed on CMA CGM’s Europe Caribbean Service (ECS), will on March 19 call at the South End Container Terminal operated by Halterm Ltd.
   “Halifax is indeed a spot call in response to market demand, and aimed as well at testing all practical aspects (commercial, logistics and operations): in light of the experience achieved, the situation will be further evaluated for the future,” the Marseilles-based carrier said in an e-mail to American Shipper.
   If CMA CGM does decide to call at Halifax on a permanent basis, it would help return lost volumes caused by Maersk Line’s recent decision to end direct calls there.
