CMA funds Education Foundation
The Connecticut Maritime Association (CMA) has formed a charitable foundation to promote and support maritime-related education and endowed it with a $500,000 donation.
The CMA Education Foundation will award scholarships to further maritime education, subsidize internships for students and maritime professionals, host career fairs and create events and activities to promote awareness and understanding of the maritime industry and international trade.
The association said it has created the foundation to give its members and the industry a tax-exempt avenue to support education. It said the foundation will “leverage donations as a non-profit entity to provide maximum impact.”
Last year, CMA gave $30,000 to high school, college, and graduate students at 15 institutions and another $22,000 to 28 interns at 16 companies in shipping and related industries.
