COAST GUARD CLOSES GEORGIA PORTS

With an eye on Hurricane Floyd, the U.S. Coast Guard’s
marine safety office in Savannah has closed the ports of Savannah and Brunswick to all
vessel traffic, in anticipating of gale-force winds.
Doug J. Marchand, executive director of the Georgia Ports Authority, ordered
operations to cease at the two ports, closed their facilities, and released personnel from
all duties, except for port police who will remain on site until tomorrow morning.
