Coast Guard investigating accident involving tug and barge
The U.S. Coast Guard said it has launched an investigation into a reported collision on Sunday between a 24-foot pleasure boat and a tug-barge near Execution Rocks off King’s Point, N.Y.
The accident occurred shortly after 2 p.m. Conditions at the time were described as less than one-foot seas, less than five knots of wind and 10 nautical miles visibility.
“We are in the initial stages of our investigation of trying to find out the cause of the reported collision,” said Coast Guard Lt. Mark Labert. “We do know three boaters were injured with one currently on life support.”
