Coast Guard Miami Beach changes command Coast Guard Station Miami Beach held a change of command ceremony today, with Lt. John Corbett replacing Lt. Steven M. Stewart as commanding officer of the station.
   Miami Beach is the busiest multi-mission Coast Guard station in the world, according to officials at Coast guard district 7, which covers the Southeastern United States and the entire Caribbean Basin. The Miami Beach security plan covers the 800-plus vessel calls each year at the Port of Miami, which handles 3.5 million cruise passengers.
   The station was instrumental in putting together the security response and patrols in the high-threat Port of Miami area in the immediate aftermath of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks, and has factored in local responses during hurricanes.
   Corbett was with the Coast Guard Standardization Team. He took over the Miami Beach station in a traditional change of command ceremony this morning.
