Coast Guard reports two ship accidents in California    The U.S. Coast Guard reported two minor accidents at California ports over the weekend.
   The Swedish car-truck carrier Otello was damaged Saturday morning when it struck a pier at the Port of Hueneme in California.
   A photograph in the Ventura County Star showed the ship’s deck had a gash and the newspaper said the pier was damaged.
   Meanwhile, the Coast Guard also reported the Panamanian-flagged tanker Kriti Jade struck the Union Pacific railroad bridge and the Benicia-Martinez Highway bridge Friday evening while moving from Tesoro Avon refinery in Martinez to Anchorage 9 in San Francisco. The upper portion of the ship’s navigational mast made contact with a rail and road bridge.
   Initial reports from UP and Cal Trans indicate that damage to the bridges is minor and cosmetic in nature, the Coast Guard said. Damage to the ship appeared to be minor.
